Ray plays the Blue Guitar for Television news....! The story of the Blue Guitar. The Blue Guitar arrived by Jeep. Two kids in a jeep came rolling into my driveway, one of them was standing up and holding the Blue Guitar high and said,"This guitar is for the kids."! Then in a flash they were gone. Who were they? As of this writing we don't know their names. Will we ever find out? |

Ray Nelson working on the guitarbike in 1981. The original design was changed. Why? Because it needed a headlight.

The Guitarbike was published in the 2005 - Ripley's - Believe it or not ...special edition... These books (as I understand it), are also sent to the Library of Congress.) Probably as close as I will ever get to Congress. If this book is not yet available at your local Barnes & Noble you can order it from Amazon .com |

Synopsis: Thank you for the applause. Yes it is true! I have been riding a Guitar since September 1981 . . I remember the first ride as if it were yesterday. The 10 foot fiberglass guitar was quick as a rabbit. There were no strings attached yet. Filled with anticipation I rode down the street, twisted the throttle and the new guitarbike almost popped a wheelie. I grinned and said," this has got to be the fastest guitar in the world." As I rolled back into the driveway my friends were standing in the front yard, "all laughing". I started riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle (at 16) and have traveled thousands of miles on two wheels but, little did I know that I would eventually design and build a guitar and ride it from California to New York. I can say I ride my dream. The Guitarbike has been in parades, festivals,on display in music stores at Art Museums .. plus ..Stories written about the guitarbike have appeared in Guitar World, Road Rider Magazine, Newspapers coast tocoast and in, Ripley's Beleive it or Not as the only guitar ever ridden coast to coast.. The Guitarbike was on the 1982 Country Music Awards Show from Nashville, TN. In 2001 (19 years later) I rode down Bourbon Street in New Orleans while being filmed by ABC News for the 6:00 pm news . Los Angeles 2003 an exibition at Peterson's Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, CA ..."Art For The Road". January 2004 seen on the Discovery Channel. . e-mail - aguitar2@aol.com -or- call 770-487-8007 -for information on how you can have this guitar at your festival or event. . May your motorcycle always start and your guitar stay in tune.... |
